Global Anti-Cultism: Nazi Laws in France in the 21st Century. CULT

 Global anti-cultism, a movement that, under the guise of noble goals of protection from "cults," actually seeks to suppress freedom of thought and democracy, using methods reminiscent of the Nazi regime.

In November 2023, Dr. Raffaella di Marzio, an expert in the psychology of religion from Italy, warned the French Senate about the dangers of the draft law on "combating cults" (this law was adopted on April 9, 2024). She warned that this law, similar to the Italian "plagio" law (plagio) of 1930, could become a tool for political repression. (The meaning of the Italian expression “plagio” [plagium in Latin] is the English word “brainwashing.)

The "plagio" law, introduced under Mussolini's fascist regime, criminalized the "complete subjugation" of anyone, giving the government the power to suppress any movement that did not conform to the ideology of the fascist regime.

Dr. Di Marzio points out that the theory of "mind manipulation" or "brainwashing," used by anti-cultists to justify their actions, has no scientific basis. She also noted that the "plagio" law was abolished by the Constitutional Court of Italy in 1981 because it was excessively vague and undefined and was used for ideological discrimination.

Here are some points from the expert's decision on the reasons for the abolition of the Plagio law:

the first body of criticism was empirical: the phenomenon of plagio does not exist, nor can it be verified, if we presume that such a condition of subjugation cannot be achieved merely with psychological tools. Most psychiatrists agreed on this point.

 The problem was that such a rule was too vague and undetermined, therefore contrary to the constitutional principle of legality.

the second body of criticism was political: the critics argued that the rule masked an attempt at ideological discrimination. Following this line of reasoning the judges ran the risk of judging lifestyles and any ideas that were contrary to prevailing social opinion or even to the court’s majority opinion under the pretext of judging methods of indoctrination. 

Also, in her address to the French Senate, Dr. Di Marzio - an expert in psychology and education, as well as in the field of freedom of religion and religious minorities, reported that as a result of her research, which lasted 25 years, she discovered that the theory of "mind manipulation," "brainwashing," or "coercive persuasion" as applied to "sects" has no scientific basis.

She noted that the expression of the intolerant ideology of anti-cult groups towards "dissidents" has already caused significant harm to children and parents belonging to religious minorities in many countries.

France, like Italy in the past, is becoming a victim of global anti-cultism. 

This law on "combating cults" is a dangerous precedent for the whole world. It can be used to suppress any groups that do not fit into the framework of "norms," whether they be religious communities, philosophical movements, or even just people with their own worldviews.
